Short notice equals big success
Two of our clients, Soha Housing and Wandle Housing Association, were recently commended in their Short Notice Inspections, in areas which positively impact their customers. The independent audit carried out by the Audit Commission has been developed for housing associations to encourage improvements in the performance and service delivery to tenants and leaseholders.
The inspection highlighted key strengths for both organisations but also emphasized areas seeking improvement and consideration. The assessment works on the basis that associations will concentrate on enhancing services rather than preparing directly for the inspection, which could happen at any time and with little notice.
Soha Housing was highly praised for their positive approach and commitment to resident involvement. There are clear aspirations to involve people of all different ages and from different backgrounds. The report recognised many opportunities such as local events and initiatives to engage residents and for them to influence how services are delivered, developed and improved, demonstrating the importance Soha places on tenants having their say.
As well as resident involvement, customer care also scored very high for Soha, offering a range of ways for customers to access services and providing good quality comprehensive information to all residents. Service literature is created and developed with resident and reader groups’ needs in mind, all which provide constructive feedback towards development.
Amongst other strengths, Wandle’s inspection underlined gas servicing as one area where performance was strong. Highly regarded by tenants, servicing is well publicised and explained throughout resident communications. At the time of the report, there had been no cases in the last three months where properties did not have a valid gas certificate.
Also highlighted was Wandle’s commitment to value for money, having achieved valuable efficiency savings for reinvestment into essential services. The report did specify that although aspirations are set out in Wandle’s value for money strategy, plans are at the early stages of development therefore there is scope for improvement. Recognition was also given to the staff efficiency log which records all actions to improve value for money. This innovative approach promotes Wandle’s commitment to raise the profile of value for money amongst staff.
